The Steam Ship Lux ,a British tanker, was on a voyage from New York to Calais with a cargo of petrol, when she was sunk by the German submarine U-60, 50 miles west of Mizen Head, the south-westerly point of Ireland. All the 29 members of the crew lost their lives, including William Nicholls. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records the date as being 8th February, 1917, Other sources show the date to have been 5th February or even some time in January. |
